The Working Groups

In 2011, the NCDD Board established four work packages to start building a national infrastructure for digital preservation. The work packages are:

  1. (Long-term) Storage
  2. Preservation (Services)/R&D
  3. Quality Control & Certification
  4. Alignment of Collection Policies and Services.

The Board prioritized work packages 1 and 2 and established two working groups:

Working Group 1. Storage

Mandate: Based on the mandate in the NCDD Strategic Agenda 2011-2013, the WG Storage will deliver a report with concrete recommendations to the NCDD Board on how storage of digital objects in the Dutch public domain can be organized as effectively and efficiently as possible while meeting quality requirements to be defined by the WG (based on the experience of WG members).

The report will have a national scope when it comes to (future) participating organisations. It will focus on provisions for long-term storage of the collections of present NCDD partners, but also for other organisations in the public domain, especially those that cannot afford to maintain their own storage facilities. These organisations must be able to participate in the ICT infrastructure.
The report will take a long-term view, defined here as a time span of ten years.
The report will be built on the premise that all participating organisations will have digital collections that contain various file formats and types of content.

Although the focus is on storage services, the ICT Infrastructure also encompasses networking and computing required to support usage of storage systems.

Working Group 2: Preservation

Mandate: Based on the mandate in the NCDD Strategic Agenda 2011-2013 the working group Preservation will deliver a report with concrete recommendations to the NCDD Board on how long-term preservation of digital objects in the Dutch public domain can be organized as effectively and efficiently as possible while meeting quality requirements to be defined by the WG.
